What is Jazz | From Swing to Bebop with Special Guest: Thanos Daskalopoulos

3/3, 19.30 @Rhythm Hoppers studio

“What is Jazz” open discussion group is a Rhythm Hoppers initiative aimed at exploring Jazz dances beyond the scope of in-classroom instructing and social dancing.

Through open discussions, screenings and lectures the project invites all members of the community to delve deeper and explore what is Jazz, what is there to learn from it and how to give back.

For our next session of “What is Jazz” we will delve into the transition from Swing to Bebop with our special guest Thanos Daskalopoulos, a renowned tap dancer and body percussionist.

From the swinging melodies of Benny Goodman and Count Basie to the groundbreaking improvisations of Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, we’ll explore how these influential figures reshaped the landscape of jazz, pushing the boundaries of tradition and paving the way for a new era of musical expression.

Join us as we explore the intersection of music and movement, revealing how jazz dances evolved hand in hand with the transition to bebop, embodying a profound transformation in tap dance expression.
